Measuring hackamore

To measure the hackamore properly, first locate the top of your horse's nasal cavity using your fingers. You will be able to trace it up to where it ends. Next, refer to this hackamore measuring guide by placing a piece of string or measuring tape one finger's width above the spot where the nasal cavity finishes. Measure from the center of the nose down to the groove under the chin, ensuring you go under to the center. This measurement will provide you with half the circumference of your horse's face. To find the full circumference, simply double that number. With these horse tack measurements, you can ensure proper hackamore fitting and choose the right size for your horse.

We normally recommend using two wraps and a rein with a half hitch over the top of the rein for a proper hackamore fitting. Three wraps under the rein are also acceptable according to our hackamore measuring guide. However, anything over three wraps can cause the hackamore to bounce, especially at the lope, so it's important to follow these horse tack measurements carefully.

If you already have a hackamore that fits your horse, please refer to our hackamore measuring guide to ensure proper hackamore fitting. To do this, hold the front part 4" apart (as shown in the second picture) and measure from the inside of the nose knot to the inside of the heel knot. This horse tack measurement will help you determine the correct length.
